The Real 'Way Forward'

Ford has been criticised for building large SUVs and trucks which made them a huge profit. The demand for these vehicles were so great and the profit magins so lucrative that the company could not simply opt not to build them. But that was ten years ago, when gasoline prices and environmental awareness we nowhere near as elevated as they are today.

The Way Forward plan at Ford which proposes to make approximately 30,000 workers redundant in the next six years also incorporates another plan: The increase of hybrid vehicle production, which CEO Bill Ford deems the 'Future for Ford'. But is it? Hybrid technology may be the 'way forward' in large cities which suffer from congestion, but it certainly is not the answer for Farmer Steve or Long Haul Truck Driver Bob. For them the advantage is renewable biofuels. And Ford should be incorporating real solutions to petroleum derived fuel dependency.
